feline pine litter allergyCan A Cat Be Allergic To Feline Pine Litter?

Anything can cause an allergic reaction in some individuals and cat litter is no exception. All litters will have something that can cause a reaction.

Can Feline Pine Be Irritating To Your Cat?

The guar dust used in Feline Pine scoopable litter is supposedly not as dangerous as the silica used in clay litters. The oils of the pine itself can be irritating but has presumably been completely removed from the product. The oil from pine is implicated in asthma, both in humans and animals.

That said, there are plenty of folks who report their kitty not being OK with the litter. The oil from pine is implicated in asthma and we know of one kitty who had severe asthma after exposure to pine products.

Even though the pine oils have been removed, the product still has the frangrance of pine... Some of the reported reactions after using Feline Pine are:

Possible Reactions To Feline Pine

  • Frequent colds. (Possibly an allergy mis diagnosed as an upper respiratory infection)
  • Incessant sneezing,
  • Vomiting
  • Lack of interest in food.

If you are using Feline Pine and are suspicious that your cat is having a reaction to the litter, discontinue the use and revert to a product used earlier that your cat had no adverse reaction to.

After a few weeks on the old product is your cat still having a reaction? If the reactions seazed when discontinuing the product, obviously your cat should not be using the product again.

Feline Pine is a popular and great litter. But if your kitty has a negative reaction to it, there are many other great litters to choose from.
