Getting rid of the smell of pet urine can be a
task you need to approach with a plan.
If the urine has soaked into carpets,
furniture, mattresses etc. getting rid of the smell will
require more than a home made cleaner, or your regular house
hold cleaner.
To be effective in how to get cat urine
smell out of your house, removing the smell of cat or
dog urine, a product containing enzymes and bacteria which
will remove ALL traces of organic matter from the now dried
urine needs to be used.
Why Regular Cleaners Won't
Work
The urine contains organic compounds that
binds to the fibers of your upholstery with really strong
bonds. Using soap or regular cleaners will not be effective
enough to release those bonds and remove the smelly
particles.
Another problem with regular house hold
cleaners is that they have to be rinsed off along with the
offending remains of the urine in order for the odor to go
away.
If cat or dog urine has soaked into your
furniture, or through your carpet and into the padding
beneath, rinsing it out will be virtually impossible. Yup,
you can wet and blot and wet and blot, but it is impossible
to remove all traces of the urine that way, and your furry
friend will detect the odor for sure, even if you don't, and
may be likely to re-offend on the same spot.
In order to prevent the need to rinse your
king size mattress in the shower, you can use a product that
actually consumes the organic (that's the smelly part)
matter from the urine. Some enzyme based cleaners are
Nature's Miracle. We hear good feed back about this product,
and even more so, the pet urine cleaner with the funny name:
Anti Icky Poo.
Anti Icky Poo will come with an injector to
inject the product into your carpet or furniture.
Anti Icky Poo contains enzymes and bacteria
that specifically feeds on remnants of urine. You inject the
product and then just allow it to dry! No rinsing
required.
Having to deal with pet urine can be a real
pain, especially when using inadequate products. Getting rid
of pet urine smell is best done with a commercial
cleaner.
The next step is to get a blacklight that will
help you find every spot in your home that has any traces
of urine on them which is paramount in order to remove all
smells.
Here's a video to show how you can find
"hidden" spots using a blacklight.
We recommend you get a blacklight if after
cleaning the spots you know about, your home still has a smell
of cat or dog urine.
